Our Health and Safety Objectives

Our primary objectives are to prevent injury, protect health, and minimise risks associated with gardening and grounds maintenance work. We aim to create and maintain safe working conditions and to ensure that our services are delivered with care and responsibility in every outdoor environment we manage.

Responsibilities and Management

Overall responsibility for health and safety rests with the management of Gardeners Brunswick Park. Management will provide clear leadership, appropriate resources, and effective systems to implement this policy. Supervisors are responsible for day-to-day health and safety arrangements on site, including monitoring work practices, enforcing safe systems of work, and reporting hazards or incidents.

All employees and contractors have a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their work. Everyone is expected to co-operate with health and safety procedures, follow instructions and training, report hazards or near-misses, and use equipment properly.

Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work

Gardeners Brunswick Park will carry out suitable and proportionate risk assessments for gardening operations such as lawn care, hedge cutting, tree work within our scope of service, planting, weed control, and general grounds maintenance. Risk assessments will identify significant hazards and set out controls to reduce risks to an acceptable level.

Safe systems of work will be developed and implemented based on these assessments. Tools and materials will be kept in a tidy and secure manner while work is in progress, and removed or safely stored at the end of each shift. Particular care will be taken when working near roads, driveways, play areas, or entrances to properties.

Manual Handling and Ergonomics

Gardening work often involves lifting, carrying, bending, and repetitive movements. Gardeners Brunswick Park will assess manual handling tasks and seek to reduce risks by using mechanical aids, team lifting, and safe work techniques wherever practicable.

Employees will receive guidance on correct lifting methods, posture, and task rotation to help reduce strain and fatigue. Heavy or awkward loads will be managed under specific safe systems of work, or alternative solutions will be used.

Training, Information and Supervision

We will provide appropriate health and safety training to employees and, where relevant, contractors. This includes induction training, task-specific instruction, and refresher training where needed. Information on risks, controls, emergency procedures, and safe work methods will be made available and explained in a clear and understandable way.
